For volunteers

Put your experience to work.
By sharing it.

Your skills and experience can help others build knowledge and confidence — whatever your career stage.

EST helps you share that experience through practical, locally led projects in the UK and overseas — remotely or in person.

Skills to share, at every stage.

We welcome people who are working, self-employed, taking a career break, semi-retired, approaching retirement or retired.

Together, we can explore a contribution that fits your skills and availability — from focused advice to mentoring or an agreed project. Every role starts with what the local partner needs.

Corporate volunteers and colleagues offering specialist skills are welcome too. You might bring knowledge of water storage, medical education, renewable energy, project management or business management. The starting point is what a partner needs and what you can responsibly offer.

01 / MENTOR & ADVISE

Help people find a way forward.

Support a colleague or team to think through a challenge and develop their own approach.

02 / TEACH & SHARE

Make knowledge useful.

Offer practical training, useful tools and skills that can be passed on to others.

03 / WORK ALONGSIDE

Build skills through practice.

Support an agreed piece of work while helping the local team develop its own capability.

For companies and colleagues

Team building with a useful purpose.

Bring your colleagues' skills together to help a UK or overseas organisation tackle a real challenge.

We can explore a focused team assignment, mentoring programme or shared project, delivered remotely, in person or through a blend of both. The local organisation sets the priorities; your team brings relevant experience and a commitment to pass it on.

We have already done this.

Our team has organised company volunteering and team-building programmes through Global Support Link, including work with non-profits and social enterprises. Ramboll engineering input and Iqarus support for health education are examples of the professional skills shared.

EST builds on this background as a separate initiative.

Shape a clear contribution.

Tell us about your team, its skills, the time available and any team-building aims. Together with the partner, we agree a useful brief, realistic learning goals and how the work will be handed over.

Local need first. No displacement. Skills that stay.

Listen first.
Leave useful skills behind.

Ethical volunteering calls for humility, reliability and respect for local expertise. Partners set the priorities. Volunteers share knowledge without taking over or displacing local workers.

Support may be remote or in person, in the UK or overseas. Availability and timing depend on partner needs and a suitable match. Any role should have an agreed scope, preparation and clear expectations, including time, expenses and relevant checks or professional requirements.
